  • The first railway connectivity between Tripura and Delhi has started running. The train connects Delhi to the Agartala station in Tripura. The train has been named the Tripura Sundari Express. The foundation stone was also laid for the India-Bangladesh broad-gauge link between Agartala and Akhaura.
  • Buddhist remains have been found on a mound called ‘Ernamma Pallu Dibba’ in the Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. Limestone pillars carved with half-lotus medallions, two limestone panels and a fragment of a Buddha image were visible on the artifact. They date back to the 3rd Century AD. These periodical surveys by the Archeaological Survey of India (ASI) are conducted under the campaign ‘Preserve Heritage for Posterity’.
  • Justice Iqbal Ahmed Ansari has been sworn-in as the 39th Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
  • Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. He succeeds Justice D.Y. Chandrachud who was appointed judge of Supreme Court.
  • India is going to host 2016 Kabaddi World Cup scheduled to be held in October 2016. The announcement was made by the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF).
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘Run for Rio’, an event to encourage the Indian contingent at the 2016 Rio Olympics beginning on August 5, 2016. The 5km run was flagged off from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

  • The Tamil Nadu Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to rename the Madras High Court as the Tamil Nadu High Court.
  • The Andhra Pradesh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan to develop a food value chain in the state. Under the MoU, Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) will encourage direct investments by Japanese companies in the fields of agriculture and food-related industry in Andhra Pradesh. Along with developing a food value chain, it will also establish food industrial parks and develop cold chains.
  • The Patna Pirates have won the fourth edition of STAR Sports-ProKabaddi League by defeating Jaipur Pink Panthers. With this win Patna Pirates has become first team to defend its title which they won in the third season in March 2016.
  • Lewis Hamilton has won the German Grand Prix title. This is his sixth win in seven consecutive races.
  • Yuriko Koike has become the first woman to lead Tokyo, after being elected the Governor of the city. She will be tasked with the management of the 2020 Summer Olympics to be held in Tokyo.
  • Skydiver Luke Aikins from the United States created history by becoming the first person in the world to jump from 25,000 feet without a parachute and landing safely in a net.
  • A rare Yew tree has been discovered in China. The extract of the tree is used to cure cancer, and the tree is believed to be about 3000 years old. The living tree is located in Huanggou Forest, in northeast China’s Jilin Province. Called a “living fossil” of the plant world, the Chinese yew has existed for 2.5 million years.
  • NASA’s scientists have used data from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter to conclude that the gullies found on Mars are likely not being formed by liquid water. Gullies are a widespread geographical feature on Mars’ surface.
  • The latest book in the Harry Potter series has been released. The book is called ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child‘, and has been available in stores since July 31st, the fictional birthday of Harry Potter.
