  1. Wimbledon 2018:  Serbia’s Novak Djokovic swept aside South Africa’s Kevin Anderson in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 7-6(3) to win his fourth Wimbledon singles title and 13th Grand Slam. This victory made him world no. 10 in men’s singles tennis by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Djokovic has won 13 Grand Slam singles titles, five ATP Finals titles, 30 Masters 1000 series titles, 12 ATP World Tour 500tournaments, and has held the No. 1 spot in the ATP rankings for a total of 223 weeks. In majors, Djokovic has won six Australian Open titles, four Wimbledon titles, two US Open titles and one French Open title.

  2. FIFA 2018: The French national team was crowned world champions after defeating an underdog Croatian team 4-2 in the World Cup final in Moscow on Sunday, capturing its second World Cup title and its first since it hosted the 1998 tournament 20 years ago.
  3. A section of farmers’ groups have announced four months of agitations ending with a march to Delhi, in protest against the government’s minimum support prices for kharif crops, which, they said, were based on a lower calculation than what was recommended by the Swaminathan Commission. The All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) said it would hold 400 protest meetings across the country as a counter to the 40 meetings Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to hold to highlight the MSP hike.
  4. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on  joined hands with Jammu and Kashmir’s Directorate of Health Services-Kashmir (DHS-K) to set up a tele-medicine centre at an altitude of 12,700 feet, roping in the country’s top hospitals, to cater to pilgrims en route to the Amarnath shrine.
  1. India on July 15 signed a revised travel agreement with Bangladesh to ease visa restrictions for citizens from the neighbouring country. The agreement was signed between the two countries in Dhaka in presence of visiting Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his counterpart Asaduzzaman Khan. Mr. Singh is in Dhaka on a three-day visit. Under the Revised Travel Arrangement (RTA)-2018, freedom fighters and elderly Bangladeshi nationals will get five year multiple visas from India.
  2. President Ram Nath Kovind nominated Ram Shakal, Sonal Mansingh, Rakesh Sinha and Raghunath Mohapatra as members of the Rajya Sabha. Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution, read with Article 80(3), provides that the President can nominate to the Rajya Sabha 12 persons having special knowledge or practical experience in the fields of literature, science, art and social service.
  3. Promising to help repatriate Rohingya to Myanmar, Home Minister Rajnath Singh told Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina that India would provide relief supplies for the refugees in Bangladesh and build homes for them in Rakhine state of Myanmar. Mr. Singh said India was prepared to “step up” assistance to approximately 7, 50, 000 Rohingya refugees who had fled the violence in Myanmar, and provide food, medical or relief supplies needed.
