  1. The sixth edition of North East festival is being organized till October 28, 2018 in New Delhi and the 15th edition of Indian International Centre festival is to be held from 27-31 October 2018 with the theme of ‘Experiencing the North East’. The five day IIC festival is organised in collaboration with the North East Council, Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. North East Festival – Connecting People, celebrating life is an attempt to create awareness about North East India and to promote tourism.
  2. Pakistan has decided to launch its first manned mission in 2022, the same year that India has planned to launch its own manned space mission. The major difference between the two missions is that while ISRO’s mission will be their own, Pakistan will do so with China’s help. For the mission, an agreement between Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and a Chinese company has already been signed. Earlier in 2018, Pakistan had launched two satellites into orbit, using a Chinese launch vehicle.

  3. Virat Kohli on October 24, 2018 became the fastest batsman to score 10,000 runs in one-day internationals, reaching the milestone in just 205 innings. With the feat, he surpassed the record held by Sachin Tendulkar, who had achieved the feat in 259 innings. With this, he became the fifth Indian batsman and 13th overall to reach 10000 ODI runs. The other Indians in the elite 10K club include Tendulkar (18426), Sourav Ganguly (11221), Rahul Dravid (10768) and MS Dhoni (10123). Kohli has been the recipient of the Arjuna Award in 2013, the Padma Shri under the sports category in 2017 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, the highest sporting honour in India, in 2018.
  4. Madan Lal Khurana, former Delhi Chief Minister, passed away on October 27, 2018 after a prolonged illness at an age of 82. He was born on October 15, 1936 in Lyallpur, Punjab Province (British India), which is now known as Faisalabad and is a part of Punjab in Pakistan. He along with Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Kedar Nath Sahani and Kanwar Lal Gupta founded the Delhi chapter of the Jan Sangh, which in 1980 transformed into BJP. He served as the Chief Minister of Delhi from 1993 to 1996, after which he resigned amid controversy. He was given the title ‘Dilli Ka Sher’.
  5. A ₹700-crore project “Swachh Nyayalaya” to have clean courts, right from the Supreme Court, High courts to the 3,388 lower courts, has been proposed. The project would be inaugurated on the occasion of Law Day on November 26 by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The project, which is ostensibly on the lines of the Centre’s flagship scheme Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, would be undertaken by NITI Aayog and the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation along with the justice department.
  6. Andhra Pradesh has achieved number one rank in the country with an average growth of 10.5% during the last four years, surpassing many developed States such as Maharashtra and Gujarat following “focused approach”. According to the State Planning Department, the average growth in the country stood at 7.3% during the last four years.
  7. The 13th India-Japan annual summit was held on 28-29 October, 2018.Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart, Shinzo Abe, held informal talks at a picturesque resort near Mount Fuji and visited the FANUC Corporation, one of the largest makers of industrial robots in the world on the first day of the two-day summit. They will hold a formal summit in Tokyo on the second day, during which strengthening of bilateral security and economic cooperation is expected to top the agenda.
