- The 25th edition of the Partnership Summit that provides for a global platform to dialogue, debate, deliberate and engage Indian and global leaders on economic policy and growth trends in India would be inaugurated by Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu in Mumbai. The Partnership Summit 2019 will showcase India in the present landscape of an emerging “New India” and the “New Global Economic Address”.
Partnership Summit 2019 - The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has released the draft amendment bill to amend the Indian Cinematograph Act, 1952. The amendments are brought in counter the film piracy. The bill aims to add a new sub-section (4) of section 7 of the Cinematograph Act, 1952. Under the amendment bill, the piracy would be a punishable offence with imprisonment of three years and fines of up to Rs 10 lakh or both.
- The government of Delhi has decided to open six World-Class Skill centres (WCSCs) in the national capital to prepare students to acquire different professional skills. The decision to open the World Class Skill Centres was announced by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in 2017. These skill centres would be set up at the unutilised space in the existing buildings of ITIs, polytechnics, degree colleges and universities.
- The Supreme Court has given its nod to Chardham Development Plan which connects the holy places of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath by all-weather roads. The construction of all weather roads in the environmentally critical zone of Himalayas was questioned in the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The Chardham Development Plan is the project of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
- The Supreme Court has suggested setting up of a three-member panel comprising of Nandan Nilekani, a co-founder of Infosys, and renowned computer scientist Vijay P Bhatkar to suggest reforms for conducting of competitive examinations fairly by government bodies. The SC has asked advocate Prashant Bhushan, appearing for the petitioner, to suggest third name for constituting the panel. The petitioner Shantantu Kumar had sought cancellation of 2017 SSC examination due to alleged tampering and leaking of question papers. The Supreme Court has put a stay on the declaration of results of SSC 2017 examinations.
- The World Bank has released the Global Economic Prospects report 2019 titled “Darkening Skies”. According to it, Growth among advanced economies is expected to drop to 2 per cent this year. South Asia is expected to grow at 7.1 per cent in 2019 driven by strengthening investment and robust consumption. Much of the contribution would come from India. The report states that Growth in the US will continue to be supported by fiscal stimulus.
- The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the setting up of three new AIIMS institutions one each at Vijaynagar at Samba of Jammu Region, Awantipora in Pulwama of Kashmir Region and Rajkot in Gujarat under the pradhan mantri swasthya suraksha yojana. The two new AIIMS for J&K, one each for Jammu Region and Kashmir Region was announced by the PM under the PM’s Development Package which was announced as a reconstruction plan for J&K. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are the autonomous institutions set up under the act of parliament, AIIMS act 1956.
