  1. Praful Patel, the President of All India Football Federation has become the first Indian to be elected as a member of the FIFA Executive Council. The election was held during the 29th Asian Football Confederations Congress in Kuala Lumpur on April 5, 2019. Patel’s term in the council will be for a period of four years, from 2019 to 2023. The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Electoral Committee will be responsible for all tasks relating to the organisation, running and supervision of the elections.

The Indian Navy and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on April 5, 2019 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to undertake joint research and development of advanced technologies for the Indian Navy. Some of the immediate projects to be progressed under this MoU include development of alternative desalination technologies, installation of wireless MEMS based sensors for remote operation and residual life assessment studies of gas turbine generator blades to improve reliability.

Senior US Treasury official David Malpass was on April 6, 2019 unanimously chosen as the new President of the World Bank. hough citizens from all member countries are considered eligible for the bank’s top job, since its inception following the second World War, all of the bank’s presidents have invariably been from the United States.  Malpass was recognised for his forecasts before the financial crisis of 2007–2008 and in the time period following the Great Recession.
  4. The Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Systems Ltd and Vice Chairman of Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Vikram Kirloskar on April 6, 2019 took charge as the new President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He succeeds Rakesh Bharti Mittal, who is the Vice Chairman of Bharti Enterprises. Uday Kotak, founder and MD and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank will be the President-Designate, while TV Narendran, the CEO and MD of Tata Steel will be the Vice President for the period 2019-20.
  5. As per the ‘Asian Development Outlook 2019’ report published on April 3, 2019 by Asian Development Bank (ADB) growth in developing Asia is projected to soften to 5.7% in 2019 and 5.6% in 2020. ADB has cut India’s growth forecast to 7.2% for 2019-20 because of a slower-than-expected pickup in investment demand. The growth rate in Financial Year 2020-21 is likely to be 7.3%. Only 20 of 45 individual economies are projected to see growth accelerate in 2019.
  6. A group of scientists have ruled out Stephen Hawking’s theory that primordial black holes are a source of dark matter. This team of scientists were including two scientists from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune. Stephen Hawking investigated in 1971. He computed that the mass of the primordial black holes could range from as low as one-hundredth of a milligram to as high as more than the mass of a thousand Suns.
  7. In table tennis, India’s young paddlers clinched seven gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the Ghana Junior & Cadet Open, a ITTF Junior circuit event. Ananya Chande and Diya Chitale, both from Maharashtra, proved to be stars accounted for nine medals – seven gold, one silver and one bronze.
