  1. Navy chief Admiral Sunil Lanba inaugurated state-of-the-art Virtual Reality Centre (VRC) in New Delhi to provide indigenous warship design capabilities of the Navy. The VRC is housed at the Directorate of Naval Design (Surface Ship Group). It seeks to provide impetus to self-reliance and greater fillip to warship construction under the Make in India initiative of the Indian government.
  2. President Ram Nath Kovind on 14 April, 2019 led the nation in paying homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar on his 128th birth anniversary.  Upon India’s independence on 15 August 1947, Ambedkar served as the nation’s first Law and Justice Minister. On 29 August, he was appointed Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee. Ambedkar is recognised as the “Father of the Constitution of India”.
  3. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will pay homage to martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh massacre on its centenary at the Jallianwala Bagh Memorial, in Amritsar, Punjab on 13 April, 2019. Mr Naidu will release a Commemorative Coin and Commemorative Postage Stamp. In the massacre hundreds of innocent men, women and children were killed by Brigadier General Reginald Dyer, during a peaceful meeting at the park on this day in 1919. It was declared a national memorial by an Act of Parliament in 1951.
  4. A new government for the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority has been sworn-in. President Mahmoud Abbas picked Mohammed Ishtayeh as the Prime Minister. A longtime adviser to Abbas and a senior member of his Fatah party, Ishtayeh and his 24-member cabinet took the oath of office at Abbas’ headquarters in Ramallah. The new cabinet replaces a technocratic government formed by Rami Hamdallah in 2014.
  5. The UN Security Council has voted unanimously to completely end its peacekeeping operations in Haiti on October 15, 2019 and establish a political mission to support government efforts to promote order and development in Latin America’s poorest country. Haiti’s leaders had asked the UN to allow government authorities to fully assume responsibility for security.
  6. Chairman and Managing Director of the General Insurance Corporation (GIC) of India, India’s reinsurance major, Alice G. Vaidyan  has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London in recognition of her work to promote insurance ties between India and the UK. Alice G. Vaidyan was the first lady officer to assume the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director of General Insurance Corporation of India. The genesis of the ‘Freedom of the City of London’ is traced to the medieval time of around 1237.

  7. India bagged a Gold and two Silver medals at the Boxing World Cup at Cologne in Germany on 13 April, 2019. Meena Kumari Maisnam claimed the gold medal in the 54 kg category. Sakshi in 57 kgs and Pwilao Basumatary in 64 kgs won Silver medals. India finished the tournament with five medals as Pinki Rani in 51 kgs and Parveen in 60 kgs had earlier won Bronze medals.
