  1. In a meeting between the Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and the NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar for reviewing progress of rice distribution, a decision was taken to prepare a detailed roadmap for the nationwide distribution of fortified rice through ration shops. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in February 2019 had approved centre-sponsored pilot scheme on “Fortification of Rice and its Distribution under Public Distribution System”.
  2. Ministry of Information & Broadcasting organised the 7th Community Radio Sammelan with the theme ‘Community Radio for SDGs’ at Dr. BR Ambedkar Bhawan, New Delhi from 27th to 29th August, 2019. It discussed experiences and possibilities of programming for raising awareness on sustainable development goals in a better manner.
  3. Under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT), the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) launched the National Digital Library of India project, which seeks to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur has developed it.
  4. Amazon India, in partnership with the office of Director-General of Resettlement (DGR), has launched a Military Veterans Employment programme in the country to create employment opportunities for military veterans as well as their spouses across company’s sort centres, delivery centres and fulfilment centres in India. DGR is an Inter Service organization functioning directly under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (Ministry of Defence) and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO).
  5. The Engineer Award 2019 by the Institution of Engineers (India) will be conferred upon the Director General, Central Public Works Department (CPWD) Prabhakar Singh for his distinguished and exemplary service in the field of Engineering and Technology on 15th September 2019 in New Delhi. Established on 13th September 1920 in Kolkata (West Bengal), the Institution of Engineers (India) is the national organization of engineers in India.

  6. India’s B. Sai Praneeth won the bronze medal after losing (13-21, 8-21) to Kento Momota of Japan in the men’s singles semi-final in the BWF World Championships 2019 held at St. Jakobshalle in Basel in Switzerland from 19th-25th August. Kento Momota is the world No.1 and defending champion of the Badminton World Championship, which was founded in 1977.
  7. In his latest Mann Ki Baat programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to celebrate the September 2019 as ‘Poshan Abhiyaan’ or ‘month of nutrition’ to create awareness to fight malnutrition among children, particularly the girl child. In 2018, the Gujarat Government launched a pilot project called Poshan Abhiyan, which is a state wide mission to eradicate malnutrition among children.
