1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) that aims towards eradicating Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Brucellosis in livestock on 11^th September, 2019 in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. As per government data, if a cow gets infected with FMD, the milk loss is up to 100% which could last for 4 to 6 months.

   

2. Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 68^th Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Guwahati, Assam on 8^th September, 2019. The two-day session suggested increasing the scope of NEC’s interventions in the region and improving the funds’ flow to the states. NEC is a statutory advisory body constituted under the NEC Act, 1971 and came into being on the 7^th November, 1972 at Shillong.
3. Under Swachhta Hi Sewa 2019, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce & Industry will launch the Plastic Waste Management Campaign on 11^th September, 2019. The theme of this year’s Swachhta Hi Sewa which is beginning from 11^th September is ‘Plastic Waste Management’.
4. The first ever Helicopter Summit, based on the theme – expanding connectivity through helicopters – was organised by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation at the Sahastradhara helidrome in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat announced that the aviation firms will be offering helicopter services in the areas identified under the UDAN Yojana (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik).
5. La Biennale di Venezia organised the 76^th Venice International Film Festival at the Venice Lido in Venice, Italy from 28^th August to 7^th September, 2019. Founded in 1932, it aims to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. It is the world’s oldest film festival.
6. While speaking at the high level segment at the 14^th session of the Conference of Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised India’s target for restoring degraded land from its earlier target of 21 million hectares (MH) to 26 million hectares (MH) by 2030. The outcome of the conference i.e. the ‘New Delhi Declaration’, which will lay down measures to combat desertification, will be released.
7. The winners of Visitor’s Awards 2019 for research in various fields were announced by the President’s Secretariat. The awards are presented for research in Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Technology Development. The recipients of the award are Professor Sibnath Deb, Professor Sanjay Puri, Professor Asad Ullah Khan, Dr Partima and Dr Shaon Ray Chaudhuri. Visitor’s Awards were instituted in 2014.
