  1. Minister of State (M/S) for Development of North Eastern Region (I/C) Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated the ‘Digital Exhibition on History of Constitution of India’ that was held on 9th December and 10th December, 2019 in New Delhi. The first sitting of the Constituent Assembly was held on 9th December, 1946. The year 2019 marks the 70th Year anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. The Constitution of India was adopted on 26th November, 1949.
  2. After the Varuna Naval Exercise that was held off Goa and Djibouti in May, 2019, India and France are going to launch a joint patrolling mission in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) to protect the strategic interests of the countries and to check large scale illegal fishing. The Joint Patrol mission will start in 2020. This is the first time that the Indian Navy will be conducting coordinated patrols with any country outside its immediate neighbourhood.
  3. Wheebox, PeopleStrong and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Association of Indian University (AIU) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) released the India Skills Report on 9th December, 2019. The report states that about 46% of students were found to be employable or ready to take-up jobs as against 33% in 2014. The most employable candidates are MBA passouts with 54% of them being found employable. Maharashtra topped the list with the highest employable talent followed by Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. In terms of the most employable cities, Mumbai is ranked at the top, followed by Hyderabad.
  4. Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Girish Chandra Murmu inaugurated the 72-metre long Draj Bridge that connects Draj Area with Tehsil Kotranka area over Draj nallah in Rajouri, J&K. It can bear heavy load up to 70 tons. It is an important bridge for the military as well as for socio-economic development of J&K’s Rajouri District as a whole. This bridge will facilitate all-weather and speedy movement of the Army troops and locals. The bridge has been built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
  5. India and Australia held their third combined dialogue of the defence and foreign secretaries on 9th December, 2019 in New Delhi. Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar and Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale led the Indian side while Australia’s Defense Secretary Greg Moriarty and Foreign Secretary Frances Adamson led the Australian side. At this 2+2 dialogue, the two countries resolved to enhance collaboration in tackling terrorism and violent extremism through increased information sharing and meeting other global challenges.
  6. The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and Aramco Asia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of THE Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Ecosystem in India in the Oil and Gas Sector. The MoU will pave a way for the accredited Indian MSMEs to carve out a space as vendors in the global space. Founded in 1955, the NSIC functions under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
  7. India moved one spot up to 129 among 189 countries in the 2019 Human Development Index, published by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on 9th December, 2019. The rankings were listed by the report titled ‘Beyond Income, Beyond Averages, Beyond Today: Inequalities in Human Development in 21st century’. Norway topped the list followed by Switzerland. The Human Development Index uses Gender Inequality Index, Multi-dimensional Poverty Index (MPI), life-expectancy, per-capita income and education. The report was first published in 1990.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched its latest RADAR imaging satellite (RISAT) and nine commercial satellites from other nations, including the US and Israel, in a PSLV launch on 11th December, 2019. The 628-kg RISAT 2BR1, which is a part of the reconnaissance series, was placed in an orbit of 576 km. The satellite is expected to bolster the country’s border monitoring measures besides aiding in disaster management, agriculture and tracking forest cover.
