  1. In badminton, Indian junior shuttlers won six medals – three gold, one silver and two bronze – at the Bulgarian Junior International Championships, which concluded in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria on 11th August, 2019. The gold medals were won by Samiya Imad Faruqui in women’s singles, the duo of Edvin Joy and Shruti Mishra in Mixed Doubles and a pair of Tanisha Crasto and Aditi Bhatt in women’s doubles.
  2. The Government of India, State government of Tripura and Tripura’s banned insurgency group National Liberation Front of Tripura led by Sabir Kumar Debbarma (NLFT-SD) signed a peace agreement, as per which NLFT-SD agreed to abjure the path of violence and join the mainstream. Since 1997, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) had been banned under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
  3. During the 42nd Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries (RIL), its Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that Saudi Aramco would be acquiring 20 percent stake in RIL’s oil refinery and chemical business at a value of $75 billion i.e. over 5.3 lakh crore rupees. The RIL-Saudi Aramco deal would be one of India’s largest foreign direct investment deals to date.

  4. Virasat-e-Khalsa museum is going to feature in the next edition of Asia Book of Records for the record of ‘maximum footfall in a museum in a day’. The museum located in Anandpur Sahib town in Punjab witnessed a record footfall of 20,569 visitors on 20th March, 2019. Asia Book of Records register human achievements and natural events for individual and institutions based in the Asian countries. Virasat-e-Khalsa was inaugurated in November 2011.
  5. The Chairman of Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Rakesh Gupta inaugurated the exhibition on ‘DAE Technologies: Empowering India through Technology’ organised by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) in New Delhi. The two-day exhibition on DAE’s spin-off technologies for Non-Power Applications (NPAs) is open to public for 11th & 12th August, 2019.
  6. ISRO has launched year-long programmes and functions from 12th August, 2019 to commemorate the birth centenary of its founder and eminent space scientist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. ISRO has also unveiled a coffee table book and a photo album on life and work of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, who is also known as the Father of the Indian Space Program.
  7. International Youth Day (IYD) is observed across the world on 12th August every year to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth. On this occasion, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju conferred the National Youth Awards for 2016-17 on twenty individuals and three organisations at a function in New Delhi. The United Nations designated 12th August as IYD in 1999 by adopting the Resolution 54/120. The first IYD was observed on 12 August, 2000.
