  1. The Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology (CAPART) under the Ministry of Rural Development organised the SARAS Aajeevika Mela under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY – NRLM). The initiative is aimed at bringing the rural women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under one platform to help them showcase their skills, sell their products and build linkages with buyers.
  2. Union Minister of State for Power RK Singh inaugurated a two-day state power ministers’ conference that will be held from 11th October, 2019 on the banks of the Narmada River at Kevadia, Gujarat. Narmada was the first river to have a canal top solar power plant in India. The focus of the conference is to promote clean energy.

  3. The National Postal Week is being observed in India from 9th to 15th October, 2019 to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital Berne. It aims to create awareness about the role and contributions of the postal sector in the social and economic development as well as in the lives of people and business.
  4. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised the ‘India Sports Summit – Fitness: $10 Billion Opportunity’ on 10th October, 2019 in New Delhi in partnership with the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), Sportscom and Sportskeeda. It is India’s first sport summit and was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Youth and Sports Kiren Rijiju.
  5. Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Harsha Vardhan released the National Diabetes and Diabetic Retinopathy Survey, 2019 at the Conference of Central Council of Health and Family Welfare on 10th October, 2019. The survey was conducted between 2015 and 2019 by Rajendra Prasad Center for Ophthalmic Sciences and AIIMS, New Delhi. The prevalence of diabetes has remained at 11.8% in the last four years. The prevalence of blindness among diabetic patients was 2.1% and visual impairment was 13.7%.
  6. International Day of Girl Child is observed every year across the world on 11th October to raise awareness about the issues faced by the girls internationally. The theme for this year is ‘Girl force – Unscripted and unstoppable’. The day was first observed in 2012. The major problems faced by girls are forced child marriage, legal rights, medical rights, education and nutrition.
  7. National Coordination Center (NCC), a data bank of Maoists, will be set up by the Government of India. It will act as a synergy point for anti-Maoist operations and intelligence gathering. The number of Maoist incidents is reduced from 500 in 1989 to 354 in 2018. The most formidable strong hold of Maoism is southern areas of Chhattisgarh, Andhra-Odisha border and parts of Jharkhand.
