- The Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) entered into a Tripartite Agreement with French National Railways (SNCF) & AFD, a French development agency in order to support Railway Station Development Program in India. Under the Tripartite Agreement, AFD will provide in-kind grant financing up to €700,000 to French Railways (SNCF), to provide technical know-how to IRSDC.
- The Central government has set a target of providing clean drinking water to all by 2024. It includes increasing coverage of piped water to households from current 18% to 100% by 2024. In states like Uttar Pradesh (UP), Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal (WB) the coverage of clean drinking water is less than 5%. It is only in Sikkim that 99% of households get tapped water.
- Actress Priyanka Chopra will be awarded Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award by United Nations International Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) American chapter at their Snowflake Ball in December 2019. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and most recently she visited Ethiopia as part of it. She also has been a part of United Nation’s global “Girl Up” Campaign. The award is named after actor-philanthropist Danny Kaye who was UNICEF’s first Goodwill Ambassador in 1954.
- World Blood Donor Day is organised by WHO every year on 14 June to acknowledge value of blood donors. This year WHO event serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood. The host country for World Blood Donor Day 2019 is Rwanda. First celebration was initiated and established on 14 June, 2004.
- Central government has recently approved a proposal to set up an agency called Defence Space Research Agency (DSRO) that will develop sophisticated weapon systems and technologies to improve the potential of the armed forces for space wars. The agency would be provided with a team of scientists and would be working in close coordination with the tri-services integrated Defence staff officers. Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) was established on 23 November 2001.
- The Centre has approved setting up of e-Foreigner Tribunal (e-FT) in Assam. The CEO of e-FT Mission Anand Prakash Tiwari said that the proposed integrated e-FT IT system will be implemented across the state for effective monitoring and resolution of cases registered with Foreigner Tribunal. The main objective of the project is to maintain a statewide bio-metric and biographic data, to capture the illegal migrants’ data to computerize data flow for all the stakeholders.
- External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, will attend the two days 5th Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia, CICA, Summit in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, from 14 June, 2019. CICA is a pan-Asia forum for enhancing cooperation and promoting peace, security and stability in Asia. India is a member of CICA since its inception and late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had participated in the first CICA Summit held in 2002 in Almaty.
