- The National Initiative for School Heads’ and Teachers’ Holistic Advancement (NISHTHA), which aims to improve learning outcomes at the elementary level through integrated teacher training, was launched in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by Commissioner Secretary of the School Education Department, Sarita Chauhan. Earlier, the Union Human Resource Development Ministry launched NISHTHA across the country in August 2019.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Brazil to attend the 11th BRICS Summit and held bilateral meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in the capital Brasilia. Brazil has decided to grant visa-free travel to Indian citizens. Chinese President invited Mr. Modi for the 3rd informal summit in China in 2020. India and Russia decided to organize the 1st Bilateral Regional Forum at the level of Russian Provinces and the Indian States in 2020.
- Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated a two-day Regional Conference on ‘Replication of Good Governance Practices in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh’ in Jammu on 15th November, 2019. The conference unanimously adopted the Sushasan Sankalp (सुशासन संकल्प: जम्मू घोषणा), after intensive deliberations held over two days.
- The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry organized the first international buyer seller meet on agriculture and horticulture produce in Arunachal Pradesh on 14th November, 2019. Ten international buyers from seven countries participated in the meet and interacted with exporters. The event aims to promote export of agricultural products and to facilitate market linkages for agri-exports from the North Eastern Region (NER), especially Arunachal Pradesh.
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a web portal and a mobile application called ‘e-Ganna’ for sugarcane farmers of the state. This app and portal will ensure transparency in the process of getting slips and facilitate sugarcane supply by farmers to mills and check irregularities. It will also help in eradicating cane mafia and middlemen and strengthen cane development societies.
- Defense Minister Rajnath Singh addressed at the 11th Maitree Diwas (Civil-Military Friendship) in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh on 14th November, 2019. He announced that the Centre is planning to set up a North East Industrial Corridor that will act as a land bridge between India and South East Asia. Rajnath Singh also inaugurated the Sisseri River Bridge and National Highway-52 in East Siang District. Maitree Diwas was initiated by Late Dorjee Khandu, Former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, in 2004.
- Rosogolla Dibas or Rasgulla Day was celebrated on 14th November, 2019 in West Bengal to commemorate the granting of Geographical Indication (GI) tag of ‘Banglar Rosogolla’ or Bengal’s Rasgulla to the state in 2017.
- The Lancet Countdown report 2019 on Health and Climate Change was released on 13th November, 2019. It highlighted that today’s children are the most affected by climate change. In India, malnutrition is responsible for two-thirds of deaths for children under the age of five years. The average production of major crops like maize and rice has declined in India by 2% since the 1960s. The production of four key crops – wheat, maize, rice and soya bean – has declined globally by 6%, 7.4%, 3.2% and 3.1% respectively.
