  1. Haryana Police has adopted Trakea, a unique barcoding software to make forensic reports tamper-proof, which will ensure that the thousands of forensic reports that form the backbone of the criminal investigation system and subsequent trials in the courts of law are not tampered with. It ensures foolproof security of the samples collected from the scene of the crime and the forensic analysis reports.
  2. The Government of India invoked Drug Price Control Order, 2013 on 13th December 2019 for the first time to increase the prices of 21 medicines by 50% to ensure their availability. The drug price control order (DPCO) is an order issued by the government under the Essential Commodities Act, which enables it to fix the prices of some essential bulk drugs and their formulations.
  3. The India Design Council (IDC) launched two initiatives – the Chartered Designs of India (CDI) and the Design Education Quality Mark (DEQM) in New Delhi on 12th December, 2019. It will help to address the five challenges of scale, quality of design, quality of education for design, raising the priority for design in industry and design for public purpose. The CDI is an institution that will establish and uphold the professional standards of design practice in India.
  4. The Parliament passed the International Financial Services Centres (IFSCs) Authority Bill, 2019 for setting up of a unified authority to regulate all financial services in the IFSCs in the country. An IFSC caters to customers outside the jurisdiction of the domestic economy. Such centres deal with flows of finance, financial products and services across borders.
  5. The Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed the Andhra Pradesh Criminal Law (Amendment) Bill, which is also known as Disha Bill, which mandates that cases involving crimes against women must be settled in 21 days through special courts. The bill also proposes death penalty for rape convicts in cases of sufficient evidence to conclusively prove the crime, among other provisions.
  6. The Ministry of External Affairs hosted the 6th Indian Ocean Dialogue and Delhi Dialogue XI in New Delhi on 13th December and 14th December, 2019. For the first time, these two Track 1.5 dialogues, which are key elements of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), and the India-ASEAN calendars respectively, will be held consecutively, and on similar, Indo-Pacific themes. The theme for 2019 IOD is ‘Indo-Pacific: Re-imagining the Indian Ocean through an Expanded Geography’. The theme for 2019 Delhi Dialogue is ‘Advancing Partnership in Indo-Pacific’.
  7. The National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) has issued the Audit Quality Review (AQR) report of the statutory audit for the year 2017-18 of the IL&FS Financial Services Limited (IFIN). The statutory auditor for this engagement was Deloitte Haskins and Sells LLP (DHS). This is the first AQR report of the NFRA since its constitution on 10th October, 2018. It was conducted pursuant to Section 132(2)(b) of the Companies Act, 2013 and the NFRA Rules, 2018.

  8. The FICCI India Sports Awards 2019 were bestowed upon sportspersons on 11th December, 2019. The awards recognized the contribution of sportspersons and various stakeholders for the year. The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) was established in 1967. The Sports Person (Female) was awarded to Rani Rampal (Hockey), Sports Person (Male) was awarded to Saurabh Chaudhary (shooting) and the Best National Sports Federation was presented to the National Rifle Association of India. The Best State Promoting Sports was won by Odisha.
