  1. The World Rabies Day is observed every year on 28th September to create awareness about the impact of rabies on human and animals, increase efforts of rabies control and create awareness about prevention of the disease. The day commemorates the death anniversary of Louis Pasteur who developed the first rabies vaccine. The day is organised by the Global Alliance World Rabies Control, which is headquartered in the United States in 2007.

  2. On the occasion of completion of 25 years of the Army Air Defense College, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the President’s Colors award to the Corps of Army Air Defense. They also won four military crosses, seven Indian Distinguished service medals and one medal of British Empire. The Air Defense was in existence since 1940, but got recognition as an independent arm only in 1994.
  3. Telangana is celebrating Bathukamma, its flower festival, from 29th September to 6th October, 2019. The nine-day long festival marks the beginning of Sharath Ruthu and begins on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya. The festival represents the culture and identity of people of Telangana and involves the worship of Maha Gauri.
  4. Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat received the baton of Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) from the outgoing Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal (ACM) BS Dhanoa, who retires on 30th September, 2019. The Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC) comprises the chiefs of India Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria will take over as IAF Chief from ACM BS Dhanoa.
  5. Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu conferred Dr. G.B. Deglurkar, an archaeologist with the prestigious Punyabhushan Award for his long-standing contribution to the field of Indian archaeology through the renowned Deccan College Post-Graduate & Research Institute. Instituted by Pune-based Punyabhushan Foundation, it was first awarded in 1989.
  6. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the first time selected India as the host country for the celebration of World Tourism Day 2019. The World Tourism Day is observed globally on 27th September and is hosted by a different country every year. The theme for this year is “Tourism and Jobs: A better future for all”. Founded on October 1975, UNWTO is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.
  7. Suresh Chitturi, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Srinivasa Farms, became the first Asian to be appointed as the Chairman of the International Egg Commission (IEC) for a period of next two years. International Egg Commission (IEC) was established in 1964.
