  1. The World Refugee Day is observed across the world on 20 June every year to celebrate stories and contributions of refugees. The theme for this year was Step with Refugees – Take a Step on World Refugee Day. On 4 December 2000, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in resolution 55/76 proclaimed the day.
  2. Indian Navy launched ‘Operation Sankalp’ in Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman to reassure safe passage of Indian flagged vessels transiting through area. This deployment is in the wake of following recent maritime incidents in region. Indian Naval Ships, INS Chennai and INS Sunayna have been deployed in region to undertake maritime security operations.
  3. Ministry of AYUSH (Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) announced the Prime Minister’s Awards for outstanding contribution for Promotion and Development of Yoga 2019 in four categories. In 2016, on the occasion of 2nd International Day of Yoga celebrations at Chandigarh, PM Narendra Modi had announced institution of awards.

  4. Senior bureaucrat Shefali Juneja was appointed as representative of India (JS Level) in council of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Montreal, Canada for a period of three years. She is a 1992 batch officer of Indian Revenue Service (Income Tax cadre) and is currently serving as the Joint Secretary in Ministry of Civil Aviation. She will succeed senior IAS officer Alok Shekhar. ICAO was established in 1944.
  5. The merger of Induslnd Bank and Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd (BFIL) will be effective from 4 July 2019. In October 2018, IndusInd Bank decided to acquire India’s leading micro-finance player BFIL, earlier known as SKS Microfinance. After the merger current CEO of BFIL, M R Rao, will become the CEO of IndusInd Financial Inclusion Ltd (IFIL) and all employees of BFIL will become part of Induslnd.
  6. Telangana CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao inaugurated the Rs. 80,190 crore Kaleshwaram irrigation project on June 21, 2019 at its starting point in Medigadda (Jayshankar Bhupalapally) district. It was an historic landmark for Telangana, also, L&T Construction, completed the iconic Medigadda Barrage, in just 24 months. About 225 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water will be drawn through this project through Godavari river basin. The project has the biggest and vital underground pumping station at Ramadugu in Karimnagar district.
  7. The International Day of Yoga is observed across the world on June 21 every year. This year theme is ‘Yoga for Heart’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led around 40000 people to mark fifth International Yoga Day 2019 at Prabhat Tara Ground, Ranchi. The United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014, announced that June 21 will be seen as International Yoga Day or World Yoga Day.
