  1. Union Ministry of Tourism launched the integrated NOC (No Objection Certificate) Online Application Processing System for National Monuments Authority (NMA) to seek approval for constructing around protected monuments in six states – Madhya Pradesh (378), Andhra Pradesh (110), Haryana (15), Punjab (10), Jharkhand (3) and Telangana (1).
  2. Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that India has set a target to restore 50 lakh hectares of its degraded land by 2030 at a curtain raiser event for the 14th meeting of the Conference of Parties to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP14) to be held in India for the first time from September 2-13, 2019. India will become the President of COP14 for two years after China’s term.

  3. A team of five girls called “Tech Witches” from the Amity International School in Noida, Uttar Pradesh who developed a mobile application called ‘Maitri’ that connects children at orphanages with senior citizens in old-age homes won the bronze medal at the global tech competition called ‘Technovation Challenge’ held in San Francisco, United States. It is aimed at bringing together individuals suffering from loneliness and depression and those lacking nurturing love of elderly role models.
  4. India and Nepal launched a bus service between Nepal’s capital Kathmandu and Siliguri in West Bengal. Nepal’s Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation Raghubir Mahaseth and Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri flagged off the bus service from Kathmandu. It is the overall 11th route for the bus service between Nepal and India, of the total 13 routes that have been approved for operating regular bus services between the two countries.
  5. The Department of Social Justice (DSJE), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for enhanced outreach on HIV/AIDS Prevention. The NACO was constituted to implement India’s first National AIDS Control Programme that was launched for the period of 1992 to 1999.
  6. Tamil Nadu Government launched its exclusive education TV channel named Kalvi Tholaikkatchi (Education TV) which aimed at benefiting students from Classes I to XII. Its programmes will be based on board exam preparation for students, employment news and opportunities for the youth and career-guidance information.
  7. Shaheen VIII (Eagle VIII), a joint bilateral aerial exercise between Pakistan and China will be conducted in the Chinese city of Holton, close to the Indian border near Ladakh. The annual exercise is being conducted since 2011. It aims to develop mechanism for inter-operability of both countries’ air forces.
  8. Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Harsh Vardhan and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the waste plastic-to-diesel plant in Dehradun that has been set up by the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) as a step towards ensuring freedom from plastic. The plant has a capacity to produce 800 litres diesel from 1 tonne of plastic. The IIP was established in 1960.
