  1. The Central Government has amended the Metro Railways (Carriage and Ticket) Rules, 2014. According to it, Metro train passengers in the country can now carry a heavier bag, as the weight limit has been increased to 25 kg from 15 kg. Only one bag weighing up to 25 kg is allowed and baggage in the form of bundles will not be permitted on metro trains. For dedicated metro trains for airports, one bag weighing up to 32 kilograms is allowed.
  2. The State Cabinet of the Uttarakhand Government decided to set up a Special Tiger Force for the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). The force will have 85 posts and will help serve as the much needed second layer of protection for the big cat. It will be effective in checking illegal human intrusion into the reserve through villages.

  3. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the sugar export policy for evacuation of surplus stocks during the sugar season of 2019-20. The policy provides lump sum export subsidy of Rs. 10,448 per Metric Tonne (MT) to sugar mills for the season of 2019-20. It shall be in conformity with the provisions of Article 9.1 (d) & (e) of the Agreement on Agriculture (AoA) and thus, World Trade Organisation (WTO) compatible.
  4. The International Day Against Nuclear Tests is observed every year across the world on 29th August to raise awareness about the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions or any other nuclear explosions. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), by unanimously adopting the resolution 64/35, proclaimed the day in December 2009. The day was observed for the first time in 2010.
  5. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 26th Ladakhi-Kisan-Jawan-Vigyan Mela in Leh, Jammu and Kashmir, organised by the Leh-based Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). DIHAR was established in 1960 to meet the fresh food requirement of soldiers deployed in the harsh terrain of Ladakh.
  6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Fit India Movement on the occasion of National Sports Day at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on 29th August, 2019. The movement aims to encourage Indians to include fitness activities and sports in their daily lives to pave way for a healthy and fit lifestyle.
  7. India’s highest sky cycling track that has been built at an altitude of 9,000 feet at Gulaba, Manali was successfully tested on August 29, 2019. The 350 metres long track will be opened for general public in the first week of October. This track has been made by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Mountaineering Sports Institute under the supervision of Colonel Neeraj Rana.
