  1. The France Football magazine announced the winners of the 2019 Ballon d’Or awards (Golden Ball), which recognizes the best footballer in the world. Lionel Messi of Argentina and Barcelona FC won the Ballon d’Or for a record 6th time in his career. He has won the title previously in the years 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015.

The World Soil Day is observed on December 5th every year after it was endorsed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 2013 and officially adopted through a resolution at the 68th UN General Assebly. The theme for this year was “Stop Soil Erosion, Save Our Future”. The focus for this year’s World Soil Day was on the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15, which is, “Life on Land”. The International Union of Social Scienes (IUSS), founded in 1924, was the first to introduce the concept of World Soil Day in 2002.
  3. Films Division and BookMyShow (BMS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the online ticketing for visiting the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) that is located at the Films Division complex in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The NMIC is the only museum in India dedicated to cinema and is an institution of national importance. The history of Indian cinema is showcased in the museum with the help of rare artefacts and digital elements and properties including costumes.
  4. The Data Protection Bill, which was released by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in 2018, was finally approved by the Union Cabinet to be tabled in the Lok Sabha. This bill will lay down the legal framework that will preserve the sanctity in data sharing and rules will be provided for collection, storage and handling of personal data of individuals incorporated in India and abroad.
  5. The fifth bi-monthly monetary policy statement for the year 2019-20 was released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The repo rate continues to remain 5.15% while the reverse repo rate stands at 4.9% and the bank rate at 5.4%. The Committee handling the monetary policy has also mentioned that the global economic activity has slowed down since the last meeting.
  6. Artificial Intelligence has been introduced in CBSE schools for classes VIII to X by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development. Several organizations like Intel, IBM and Microsoft have collaborated with the Central Board of Secondary Education to create the module of Artificial Intelligence. Teachers were also trained on tools such as Flipgrid, OneNote, Outlook, Minecraft, etc and underwent a three-day project on tools to create BOTs, digital story-telling and concepts focusing on artificial intelligence.
  7. INDRA 2019, the joint tri-service exercise between India and Russia, is scheduled to be held between 10th December to 19th December, 2019 in Pune, Maharashtra. The exercise will be held simultaneously in Pune and Goa with fighter aircrafts, company sized mechanized contingents and ships of respective armies participating. The forces will be trained in tactical operation end drills like handling and neutralization of Improvised Explosive devices, arms smuggling prevention and anti-piracy measures. INDRA began in 2003 but the first joint tri-service exercise was conducted in 2017.
