  1. Deputy Foreign Minister of Polish Republic Marcin Przydacz, Polish Ambassador to India Adam Burakowski and Guardian Minister of Kolhapur Chandrakant Patil unveiled a commemorative pillar, in memory of the Polish families and individuals, who had made India their home during World War II, at Valivade village in western Kolhapur district of Maharashtra. Around 5,000 refugees from Poland lived in Kolhapur’s Valivade village between 1942 and 1948.
  2. Justice P Lakshmana Reddy, a retired judge of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh High Court was sworn-in as the first Lokayukta of Andhra Pradesh. His oath of office was administered by the State Governor Biswabhusan Hairchandan in Vijayawada. He will serve in office of Lokayukta for 5 years. Lokayukta is an anti-corruption ombudsman organization in states.
  3. World Ozone Day, also known as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, is observed annually on 16th September to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the ozone layer in 1987. The theme for this year was ‘32 Years and Healing’.

  4. Pankaj Advani won his 22nd World Billiards title at the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) World Billiards Championship 2019. This is Advani’s fourth consecutive world title in billiards short format (150-up). Pankaj Advani has won world titles in cue sports more than anyone in the world, making him the greatest cueist of all time. Founded in 1971, IBSF is the organisation that governs non-professional snooker and English billiards around the world.
  5. Union Ministry of Railways signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) for the facilitation of green initiatives in Indian Railways. These initiatives are a part of India’s contribution towards mitigation of global warming and combating climate change.
  6. Indian Armed Forces is going to organise an exercise codenamed ‘HimVijay’ in October 2019 in Arunachal Pradesh, close to the borders with China. India is planning to deploy their latest American weapon systems such as M777 ultra-light howitzers and Chinook heavy-lift helicopters.
  7. In a step towards making Rajasthan a model state for good governance and accountability in administration, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched the ‘Jan Soochna Portal’, a portal for quick access to information of government departments. It is the first state in the country to provide information about a dozen departments on a single platform. The portal has been launched under the Rajasthan Innovation Vision (RAJIV) campaign.
