  1. Head of the Group of Ministers of GST Network (GSTN) Sushil Kumar Modi announced the GSTN’s decision to make Aadhaar authentication or physical verification mandatory for new dealers from January 2020, so as to check malpractices in GST. Mr. Modi is the Chief Minister of Bihar. GSTN has been jointly registered by the Central and State Governments as a non-profit Company under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
  2. Spain won its second FIBA Basketball World Cup title after defeating Argentina with 95-75 in the final held at Wukesong Arena in Beijing, China. The Spaniards won their first basketball World Cup title in 2006 in Japan. Founded in Geneva in 1932, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) is an association of national organizations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide.
  3. India’s ‘Yogi of the Racetrack,’ which is a Union Ministry of Tourism’s short promotional film on Yoga, won the ‘Best Video award for the Asia & Pacific Region in the UNWTO Tourism Video Competition 2019 during the 23rd General Assembly Session of the UNWTO in St. Petersburg, Russia on September 12, 2019. Chile won the award for ‘Exceptional stories of sustainable tourism’.
  4. India and Slovenia signed seven MoUs and agreements in the presence of the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Slovenian President Borut Pahor. President Ram Nath Kovind is on the final leg of his visit to Iceland, Switzerland and Slovenia. The seven agreements are programmes of cooperation in the fields of River Rejuvenation (Clean Ganga Mission), Culture, Investment, Science & Technology, Sports and Standards.
  5. Maritime Communication Services that offer broadband services to support those travelling by sea and a web portal for reporting stolen mobiles to help trace them was launched in Mumbai, Maharashtra. This portal is under a project called Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system. Nelco Ltd., which is India’s leading VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) solutions provider, will provide quality broadband services to maritime sector.

  6. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the renovated Jayakar Bungalow, a classic heritage site situated inside the premises of the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) in Pune, Maharashtra. A special booklet ‘Parampara: An ode to Jayakar Bungalow’ was also released. Built in 1945, it has a distinct Tudor style of architecture and is classified as a Grade I heritage structure.
  7. India’s National Survey and Mapping Organization, Survey of India (SoI) will deploy 300 drones for the first time to provide good high-resolution foundation maps and to map 75% of India’s geography within the next two years. Under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), SOI is in charge of mapping and surveying the entire country. Established in 1767, SOI is one of the oldest engineering departments of the Government of India.
