  1. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) selected Ramesh Pandey, a 1996-batch Indian Forest Service officer, for the Asia Environmental Enforcement Award for his work in combating trans-boundary environmental crime. The awards were first presented in May 2015.
  2. The Union Health Ministry has launched the ‘World Health Organisation (WHO) India Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS) 2019–2023: A Time of Transition’ in New Delhi on 9th October, 2019. The collaboration is intended to help India in achieving its health sector goals and to bring about a transformative change in the health sector by improving health of the people in the country.
  3. The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) inked an agreement with the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore for introducing a two-year Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship (MGNF) Program that aims to boost skill development at the district level. This program is designed under the Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP).
  4. The Government of India launched the Gagan Enabled Mariner’s Instrument for Navigation and Information (GEMINI), a device to provide information about disasters to the fishermen when they are 10 to 12 kilometers away from the coast. GAGAN is GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation instrument that provides a navigation system.
  5. The World Mental Health Day (WHD) is observed every year on 10th October to raise awareness about the mental health issues all over the world. The World Federation for Mental Health with the support of the World Health Organisation (WHO) organizes the day all across the world. The theme for this year is ‘Suicide Prevention’. According to WHO, around 8 lakh people across the world die every year due to suicide.

  6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi released commemorative stamp to honour Marshal of Air Force late Arjan Singh for his exemplary service to the nation at the ‘At Home’ program held in New Delhi to mark the 87th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF). He had served as the Ambassador of India to Switzerland. He had also served as the Lieutenant Governor of New Delhi (1989-90). He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1965.
  7. The Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will launch DHRUV, the Prime Minister Innovative Learning Program (PMILP) on 10th October, 2019 from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) headquarters. The objective of DHRUV would be to allow students to realize their full potential and contribute to the society. The programme will be called DHRUV (named after the Pole Star) and every student, DHRUV TARA.
