  1. India signed a deal of Rs.1,500 crore with Russia to acquire R-27 air-to-air missiles under 10-I projects, which mandate all the three services of India – Army, Navy and Air Force – to maintain critical weapon systems and spares for a specified minimum period called as “War Wastage Reserve” (WWR). The move is aimed at equipping Su-30MKI combat aircraft fleet of the Indian Air Force and boosting its capabilities beyond visual range warfare.

  2. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan issued an order to open a 1000-year-old Shawala Teja Singh Temple located in Sialkot city of Pakistan, which was sealed for last 72 years. It has been re-opened for devotees for the first time since partition. Built by Sardar Teja Singh, it is dedicated to Hindu deity Shiva. As per official estimates, nearly 75 lakh Hindus live in Pakistan.
  3. The Karnataka Legislative Assembly elected BJP MLA Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri as the new Speaker. Former Karnataka Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar had resigned from his post, soon after BS Yediyurappa government won floor test in the house. Hegde is a six-time MLA – 1994, 1999, 2004, 2008, 2013 and 2018.
  4. Wing commander Tarun Chaudhary jumped from a Mi-17 helicopter from an altitude of 8500 feet to become the first pilot of Indian Armed Forces (IAF) to do a wingsuit jump. It was for the first time that a wingsuit jump demonstration was held before an organised gathering. The jump was a tribute to the heroes of the Kargil War.
  5. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched Atal Community Innovation Centre in New Delhi on 31st July, to encourage the spirit of innovation through solution-driven design thinking to serve the society. The centre has been launched to focus on the 484 backward districts, where the innovation infrastructure is very weak.
  6. The Cabinet has approved the Jammu & Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019 which seeks to extend the benefit of reservation of up to 10 per cent to Economically Weaker Sections in educational institutions and public employment alongside existing reservations.
  7. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the redesigned dynamic website of publication division (www.publicationsdivision.nic.in) on 31st July, to provide real-time purchase facilities to book lovers. The website will provide the information about publication division’s books and journals. He also launched e-version of Rozgar Samachar and e-book Satyagraha Geeta.
