  1. Iran and Pakistan have agreed to set up a joint border reaction force following to counter the increasing number of deadly attacks by militant groups on their frontier. Iran- Pakistan relations have been strained in recent months and both sides have been accusing each other of not doing enough to stamp out militants allegedly sheltering across the border.
  2. Reports suggest that the US could terminate the sanctions waivers it granted to some importers of Iranian oil after it re-imposed sanctions on Iran last year. The ending of sanction waiver is part of the US strategy to exert maximum pressure and isolate Iran. US has stated that the US along with Saudi Arabia and UAE have agreed to take timely action to assure that global demand is met as all Iranian oil is removed from the market.
  3. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the Ministry of AYUSH and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for cooperation in research and education in areas of traditional systems of medicine and its integration with modern science. Under the MoU, Both organizations shall jointly endeavour to pursue:  R&D covering.
  4. The 24th World Book and Copyright Day was observed across the world on April 23, 2019 to highlight the power of books and to promote UNESCO’s vision of knowledge societies that are inclusive, pluralistic, equitable, open and participatory for all citizens. 23 April is considered as a symbolic date for world literature. UNESCO proclaimed 23 April as the World Book and Copyright Day in 1995.
  5. The Asia Badminton Championships will be held at Wuhan in China during 23-28 April. India will be represented by Kidambi Srikanth and Sameer Verma in men’s singles and P.V. Sindhu and Saina Nehwal in women’s singles. The 2019 Badminton Asia Championships is the 39th edition of the Badminton Asia Championships.
  6. India clinched one gold, one silver and bronze at the Asian Wrestling Championship in China’s Xian on 23 April. World number one Bajrang Punia logged 10 points in a row in the gold medal bout to reclaim his Asian Championship crown. He defeated  Kazakhstan’s Sayatbek Okassov 12-7 in 65kg men’s freestyle final.  Another Indian Parveen Rana in 79kg category secured a silver medal. In 97 Kg category Satywart Kadian, picked a  bronze medal defeating Haobin Gao of China by 8-2.

  7. Former deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi was appointed as a Special Observer for Tripura where polling is being held in the third phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The Election Commission had earlier postponed polling in the Tripura (East) Lok Sabha seat, saying the prevailing law and order situation there is not favorable for holding free and fair polls.
