  1. At the 12th South Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship held in Kathmandu, Nepal, Indian bodybuilder Ravinder Kumar Malik won the “Mr. South Asia” title 2019. He won the title in 80 kg category. India remained at 3rd position with 380 points with a total of 10 medals including 4 gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze. Afghanistan secured the top position with 535 points and a total of 15 medals.
  2. HD Kumaraswamy-led Congress-JD(S) coalition government lost the trust vote in the Karnataka floor test on 23rd July, 2019. The Congress-JDS government got just 99 votes during the trust vote, while the BJP got 105 votes. The Karnataka floor test took place after fifteen rebel legislators submitted their resignation to the speaker of the house and two independents withdrew their support to the Congress-JD(S) coalition.
  3. National Broadcasting Day is observed every year on 23rd July in India to commemorate the first ever radio broadcast in the country that went on air from the Bombay Station under a private company, the Indian Broadcasting Company on 23rd July, 1927. The Indian State Broadcasting Service became All India Radio on 8th June, 1936.
  4. The first flight director of the US space agency, NASA, Chris Kraft died at the age of 95, days after the 50th anniversary celebrations of the first Moon landing in 1969. Kraft set up NASA’s Mission Control operations to manage America’s first manned space flight and the subsequent Apollo missions to the Moon. In 2006, NASA honoured Kraft with the Ambassador of Exploration Award.
  5. An inter-ministerial panel, which was set up by the government on issues related to the crypto currencies in India, has suggested banning all private crypto-currencies in India. It also recommended a fine of up to Rs. 25 crore and imprisonment of 10 years to anyone dealing in them. It also recommended a ban on the block chain system in the selected areas of the country.
  6. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the increase in the number of awards given to the cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from 143 to 243. The NCC cadets are now entitled to receive two Raksha Mantri Padaks, carrying a cash incentive of 30,000 rupees, as against one Padak of 20,000 rupees earlier. The Defence Minister has also approved a substantial increase in the DG’s commendations from the existing 102 to 200. He also approved 9 new Best Cadet Awards for NCC cadets in various categories to make the total of such awards to 27.

  7. Boris Johnson was elected as the Conservative Party leader and Britain’s new Prime Minister on 23rd July, 2019. The elections were held after Prime Minister Theresa May announced her resignation amid a mounting rebellion from within the party. Johnson has vowed that Britain will quit the European Union on the scheduled date of 31st October, even if it means leaving without a divorce deal.
