  1. The World Rhino Day is celebrated on 22nd September every year to celebrate the world’s five rhinoceros species and to reflect on the challenges being faced by them. The World Wildlife Fund-South Africa in 2010 announced to celebrate World Rhino Day every year since then.
  2. The Union Ministry of Sports is going to set up 20 National Centres of Excellence (NCE) to groom the athletes for the 2024 Paris and 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The new scheme will have a single scheme running for athletes, which would end the differentiation in training and other facilities between athletes within the same campus.
  3. India and the United States will conduct their first ever tri-services exercise code-named as ‘Tiger Triumph’ at Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh in November 2019. It will focus on large-scale amphibious Humanitarian Relief and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. This is India’s second time to conduct the tri-service exercise. India had earlier conducted a similar tri-service exercise ‘Indra wargames’ with Russia at Vladivostok in 2017.
  4. The International Coastal Cleanup Day is observed every year on the third Saturday of September to encourage people to clean beaches and remove the garbage plaguing it. The theme for this year is the marine animal – The Pelican. It was started in 1986 by Linda Maraniss and Kathy O Hara and is celebrated every year since then.
  5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and participate in other multilateral and bilateral engagements in New York. He will participate in the UN Secretary General’s Summit on Climate Change and a High level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage and Leaders’ Dialogue on Strategic Responses to Terrorist and Violent Extremist Narratives at the UN headquarters on 23rd September, 2019. He will also inaugurate the Gandhi Solar Park at the UN headquarters.

  6. Divij Sharan of India along with Igor Zelenay of Slovakia won the men’s doubles title at the ATP Tour Tennis Tournament held at St. Petersburg in Russia. The 49th ranked Divij has so far won 16 Challenger and 19 Futures doubles’ titles, apart from 5 Tour titles. The 2019 ATP Touris the global elite men’s professional tennis circuit organised by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) for the 2019 tennis season. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) was formed in September, 1972 by Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale.
  7. The National Institute of Disaster Management is organizing a day-long National Workshop on Post Disaster Needs Assessment in New Delhi on 23rd September, 2019. The focus of this workshop is to disseminate the outcome documents of the study to all the relevant stakeholders, so that these may be utilized as a reference document while preparing the memorandum for submission to the Home Ministry in the post-disaster phase.
