Mine Countermeasures Exercise

  1. Poonch Link-up Day was celebrated by the Indian Army on 23rd November, 2019 to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lived defending Poonch during the conflict in 1948. In  the1947-48 war, the Poonch district, which is bounded by the Line of Control on all three sides, was divided between India and Pakistan.
  2. The Ministry of Development of North East Region conducted a four-day long North East festival in Varanasi between 23rd November and 26th November, 2019. It aims to fuse the cultures of Ganga and Brahmaputra. The previous editions of the event were held in Chandigarh and Delhi. The event will also promote the tourism potential of the North East region.
  3. The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Australia’s Western Sydney University. It aims to promote collaboration in research and developing guidelines for integrating Ayurveda principles with modern medicine. The MoU was agreed and exchanged on the occasion of the event ‘India Australia International Education and Research Workshop’ at the Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi.

The Indian Naval Forces and the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) jointly conducted the Mine Countermeasures Exercise, an explosive ordnance disposal and mine counter measure for the first time on 23rd November, 2019. The naval ships that are designed to locate and destruct the naval mines are called Mine Counter Measure Vessels (MCMVs).
  5. The Union Cabinet on 21st November, 2019 approved the introduction of the Industrial Relations Code, 2019, which is the third code under labour reforms. The government wants to codify 44 central labour laws into four broad codes. The four codes include wage rates, social security, industrial relations and industrial security and labor welfare.
  6. The Counter Terrorism Table Top Exercise (CT-TTX), the first counter terrorism exercise among the Quad countries – India, Japan, US and Australia – was hosted by the National Investigation agency on 21st November and 22nd November, 2019. Quad Countries, the dialogue between the four countries, was initiated in 2007 by the Japanese President Shinzo Abe.
  7. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the establishment of the National Institute for Sowa-Rigpa (NISR) in Leh as an autonomous organization under the Ministry of AYUSH. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 47.25 crores. It also approved creation of the post of director in Level-14 to oversee implementation of the project from the construction stage itself.
  8. President Ram Nath Kovind, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, awarded the President’s Colour, the highest honour bestowed upon a military unit, to the Indian Naval Academy (INA) in recognition of the yeoman service rendered by the institution in training and shaping Indian Naval officers over the last 50 years at three different locations – Goa, Kochi and Ezhimala. The INA was first established at a temporary location at Kochi, Kerala in 1969.
