  1. The World Intellectual Property Day was observed across the world on April 26, 2019 to spread awareness about the role that intellectual property rights like patents, trademarks, industrial designs and copyright play in encouraging innovation and creativity. The theme of World Intellectual Property Day 2019 was “Reach for Gold: IP and Sports”. In 2000, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) designated 26 April as an annual World Intellectual Property Day to address the perceived gap between Intellectual Property as a business/legal concept and its relevance to people’s lives.

  2. Former Indian Army Chief General (Retired) Dalbir Singh Suhag was appointed as India’s High Commissioner to the island nation Seychelles on April 25, 2019. Dalbir Singh served as the Army Chief from August 1, 2014 to December 31, 2016. He was also part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) in Sri Lanka in 1987.  In 2017, India stood at 8th position by way of exports to Seychelles.
  3. Justice Indu Malhotra was on April 25, 2019 appointed as the third member of the in-house inquiry panel set up to examine allegations of sexual harassment against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, after the recusal of Justice N V Ramana. The complainant had expressed objection to the presence of Justice Ramana in the panel on the ground that he is a close friend of the CJI and a regular visitor to his house.
  4. The Supreme Court on April 25, 2019 constituted a one-man panel comprising former SC judge, Justice A K Patnaik to hold an inquiry into the allegations of a larger conspiracy to frame Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and fixing of benches in the top court. Upon completion of the inquiry, Justice Patnaik would be required to file a report in a sealed cover before the court after which the matter will be heard again.
  5. Sri Lankan Defence Secretary, Hemasiri Fernando resigned from his post on April 25, 2019 taking responsibility for the suicide bomb attacks on Sunday as the country remains tense in the aftermath. Fernando said that while there had been no failure on his own part, he was taking responsibility for failures of some institutions he headed as the secretary of defence.
  6. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed across the globe every year on April 28, 2019 to promote safe, healthy and decent work. The day is an awareness-raising campaign, which aims to focus international attention on the magnitude of the problem and on how promoting and creating a safety and health culture can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries. The day has been observed every year by the International Labour Organization (ILO) since 2003.
  7. India has won 13 medals, including two gold, four silver and seven bronze at the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok. Amit Panghal won gold medal in the men’s 52-kg category by defeating Inkyu Kim of Korea. In women’s 81-kg category, Pooja Rani defeated World Champion Wang Lina to add to India’s gold medal tally.
