  1. The third edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) will be held from 18th to 30th January, 2020 in Guwahati, Assam. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in partnership with School Games Federation of India (SGFI) and Assam as the host state will conduct the 2020 Games. KIYG, formerly called Khelo India School Games (KISG), are held annually in the month of January or February. The first edition of KIYG was held in New Delhi in 2018.

  2. MC Mary Kom, six-time World Champion, claimed the gold medal in 51kg category by defeating April Franks of Australia with 5-0 at the 23rd President’s Cup held in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia. The 36-year old Olympics’ bronze medallist had also won a gold medal at India Open boxing tournament in May 2019. She is the first Indian woman boxer to get a gold medal in the Asian Games in 2014 at Incheon, South Korea and is the first Indian woman boxer to win a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
  3. Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is observed annually on 29th July to raise awareness about tiger conservation. On this occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a census report of tigers in India titled ‘The Tiger Estimation Report 2018’. The report said that 2967 tigers are present in India. The day was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit.
  4. VK Johri, a 1984-batch Indian Police Service officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the next Director General of Border Security Force. Johri is presently serving as the Special Secretary in Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), under the Cabinet Secretariat. He will succeed Rajni Kant Mishra. The official order also stated that Mr. Johri has been appointed as an Officer on Special Duty in the Union Home Ministry.
  5. President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Cotonou, Benin, on a three-nation tour to Benin, Gambia and Guinea. He will hold talks with his Beninese counterpart Patrice Talon in Cotonou on 29th July, 2019. This is the first ever state visit by an Indian president to Benin. Mr. Kovind will also address the National Assembly in Porto Novo.
  6. Indian boxers finished their campaign at the Thailand Open in Bangkok on 27th July, 2019 with a total of eight medals, comprising a gold, four silver and three bronze. Asian Championships silver medallist Ashish Kumar bagged his first international gold in the 75 kg category.
  7. The government will begin the fieldwork for the 7th Economic Census (7th EC), being conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation in 2019, from Tripura. Economic Census is the complete count of all establishments located within the geographical boundary of the country. The 6th edition of Economic Census was conducted in 2013.
