  1. Air Chief Marshal B. S. Dhanoa launched the Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) 3D air-borne combat based mobile video game called ‘Indian Air Force: A cut above’ at National Bal Bhawan, New Delhi. Earlier, the IAF had launched its first game called “Guardians of the Skies” in 2014. The game is aimed at making youth aware of the IAF and encourages them to join the armed forces. It will also provide gamers virtual experience of airborne combats.
  2. Samarth, an initiative to bring Indian artisans, weavers, and makers of handicrafts to its platform, has been launched by the Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart. This initiative could give indigenous communities and their products access to Flipkart’s Indian customer base of over 150 million. Flipkart e-commerce may exceed $100 billion by 2022 and can potentially create 1 million-plus jobs in the coming years.

Director General of Civil Aviation Security (DG CAS) Rakesh Asthana has been given additional charge of Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau for next 6 months or till a new incumbent is appointed. Established in 1986 with headquarters in New Delhi, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is a nodal intelligence and drug law enforcement agency of the country.
  4. Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved a bill to amend the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956 that seeks to increase the number of judges in the Supreme Court from the present 31 to 34 (i.e. by 10%), including Chief Justice of India (CJI). According to Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, there are a total 11, 59,331 cases that are pending in the Supreme Court. Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Act, 1956 originally provided a maximum of 10 judges, excluding the CJI.
  5. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced that all Delhi households will get free lifeline electricity up to 200 units. It aims to encourage people to consume less power and conserve more energy. Delhi Government had earlier also announced the ‘Half Bill’ scheme in 2015 that promised to reduce electricity bills by half for all the households that consume power between 201-400 units.
  6. President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi and Khadi at the Ebunjan Theatre in Gambia to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma. Khadi samples for the exhibitions have been provided by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), while that for the Gandhi exhibitions have been sent by the Gandhi Smriti.
  7. According to the Saudi Arabian Government ruling published on 2nd August in the official gazette Umm Al Qura, women above the age of 21 will be allowed obtain passports and travel abroad without the approval from a male guardian. It is a part of ‘Vision 2030’ program.
